In a powerful demonstration of community collaboration, the Community Preservation Committee (CPC) has voted unanimously to fund a tennis and pickleball facility to be located in the Daoulas Education Complex on Lakeview Avenue. The placement of the facility within the school complex and acceptance of day-to-day management of the facility were previously supported by the Dracut School Committee. Town officials have also played a pivotal role in supporting the project.

The CPC provides recommendations to Town Meeting on various project applications. Since 2001 the 2% local surcharge has collected approximately $15.5 million which has been matched by State contributions of more than $7 million. The $2.5 million tennis and pickleball project, if approved at the June 3, 2024 Town Meeting, will be constructed with Community Preservation funds set aside for recreational or other preservation projects. By law, CPC funds must support community projects and are separate from the general budgets of the Town and School Department.

If approved at Town Meeting, construction would occur during the summer/fall of 2024, ensuring a completion before the spring of 2025. The facility would be available for community recreation as well as a home for a Dracut High School tennis team.
