Welcome Back 2025

Dear Dracut Families, Students, and Staff:

As we begin a new school year, I want to extend a warm welcome back to each of you. A new year always brings a sense of anticipation—new classrooms, new teachers, and new opportunities for learning and growth.

Over the summer, our teachers, administrators, and staff have been preparing thoughtfully so that every student is met with a safe, supportive, and engaging environment. We remain committed to ensuring that our schools are places where students feel challenged academically and supported personally.

Parents and guardians, your role in this process is essential, and I encourage you to stay connected with your child’s teachers and school leaders throughout the year. Together, we can help our students set goals, overcome challenges, and take pride in their progress.

I strongly encourage you to utilize the tools we have established to maintain strong connections.  Via Aspen, you may monitor your child’s academic performance and attendance.  With ParentSquare, you will be able to access conversations, notices, and other information from teachers and principals.  I also encourage you to take an active role in discussing activities and assignments shared with your child via Google Classroom.

At the district level, the proposed school building project to consolidate and replace the Campbell and Greenmont Avenue Elementary Schools with a new school on the site of the current Campbell School will be a focus for the entire community. Twenty-five years ago, the community recognized the need and built a new middle school.  Ten years ago, the community supported the renovation and expansion of Dracut High School.

Now the elementary schools need to be addressed.  For more than a year, a School Building Committee has been working on the Campbell/Greenmont project.  This committee, made up of the town’s Permanent Building Committee, district and town administrators, and school and town officials, has carefully and thoughtfully reviewed a number of options related to location and configuration.  I encourage everyone to review the work to date.

It is anticipated that a vote at November’s Town Meeting will be taken to establish a special election in December to see if the town will make a formal commitment to fund the project.  This fall, a series of public forums will occur so that residents can have a complete understanding of the need for action, the scope of the work completed to date, and the implications for taxpayers.  The first forum will occur on September 10th at 6 PM at Dracut High School.  I invite all community members, not just those of Campbell and Greenmont.  This is a town project with implications for the entire community.

As we look ahead, I am confident that this school year will provide meaningful learning experiences and opportunities for our students to continue developing both in and out of the classroom. Thank you for your continued trust and partnership in the education of Dracut’s children.

Sincerely,
Steven Stone
